The Science of Seed Bombs
What's in a Seed Bomb?
Seed bombs are made of three main ingredients:
- Clay: Helps hold everything together
- Soil or Compost: Gives nutrients to the seeds
- Seeds: Usually wildflower or native plant seeds
How Do Seed Bombs Work?
When it rains, the clay in the seed bomb breaks down. This allows the seeds inside to start growing in the soil. The round shape helps protect the seeds from birds and other animals until they're ready to sprout!
Why Are Seed Bombs Important?
Seed bombs help:
- Bring more plants to areas that need them
- Create food and homes for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators
- Make our neighborhoods more beautiful
- Fight climate change by adding more plants that clean our air
